This November, the British fashion label Gold Leaf launched their collection surrounded by friends, designers, models and anyone who is anyone at East London’s notorious, McQueen. The night began with an intimate reception and as the 250 guests flittered around the Lounge Bar, shimmied past the numerous photographers and with a constant eye on the catwalk, the venue was more than buzzing! On entry, a backdrop screen stood at the far end of the room subtly displaying the sponsorship logos of Bang & Olufsen of Chelsea, Love From London, Fashion TV and Aspire. Made in Chelsea starlet Rosie Fortescue, who is an avid fan of the brand was found blogging from the front row. Then amongst interviews and the chink of Champagne flutes, the lights dimmed and the imminent start of the show was announced …
The talented Bluey Robinson was the first face to appear on the catwalk and his melodic swagger soon illuminated the room, providing the perfect introduction for Gold Leaf’s exquisite collection that followed. The models were fierce and their confidence shone brightly through the earthy tones that the label prides itself upon. From textured floor-length skirts to the sultry lace hood that stole the show, the Gold Leaf collection illustrated refinery at it’s finest. Delicate leafy headpieces fell from overstated ponytails and as Bluey wrapped up the show in style, approving nods, supportive smiles and a thunderous applause echoed success. The creativity of the show and its designs were exciting and fresh, retaining a youthfulness that most designers spend years attempting to create. And here it was, Gold Leaf had conjured up a storm on the runway at McQueen, thanks to the ambitious vision of three students.

The power-trio behind Gold Leaf were spotted in October by former fashion editor of Vogue UK and founder of Elle UK, Harriett Jagger. After viewing their designs she handpicked her favorite pieces to feature on the live runway show of Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model in the final show of the 2011 season. Soon after, Gold Leaf had their first order placed by exclusive designer boutique Love From London. With their First Edition Collection in the woodwork, I am sure we will be seeing much more of Gold Leaf in 2012! However their innovative nature is not only confined to fashion; these bright sparks have also ventured into new seas by sponsoring the GB Telemark Ski Team and British racing talent, Melville McKee earlier this year. They will be designing limited edition snow sports and motorsport inspired designs that further highlight the versatility that makes the label worthy of its title - Gold!
The Gold Leaf launch party was not only a celebration of the charm, flair and talent that the brand has to offer, but it was also a bold hello to the world of fashion. And a inspiration to students everywhere, that although at times you may not know where the hangover ends and the coursework meeting begins… with a passion for what you love, success is enduring. Floating from an understated tree of style and sophistication, a Gold Leaf has well and truly landed!

Don’t forget to catch the launch show on Fashion TV between November 21st – 30th! Video will also follow on FTV.com and thegoldleaf.eu
